The 2012 NBMA Executive was elected last September. Incoming Executive members are new President Paul Brousseau, Community Hall Director, Bob O’Neill and Bristol Municipality Liaison, Tom Healey.

A welcome back to Treasurer Susan Moore, Directors Gillian Pritchard (Membership), Nancy Crain (Swimming Program), Trish Lynch (Regatta), Missy Fraser (Tennis/Field Sports/Arts and Crafts) Stephanie Fraser (Social), Sandy Monaghan (Seniors), Don Page (Docks), and Kellie Major (Communications).

The Executive’s winter meeting was held on February 12^th. Highlights of the meeting include:

• A new instructional canoe and kayak program will be introduced this summer. Further details to be announced shortly.
• This year’s swimming program will run from July 2 to August 10, 2012.
• Registration Day will be Saturday, June 30, 2012 and will also continue on Monday nights.
• Social committee will put on a Wine and Cheese event at Centennial Hall, instead of a first dance.  The Strawberry Social will take place on July 1, and the always-popular Chili Cook-off and Horseshoe tournament will be on July 21^st.  The August dance will be held on August 4^th, 2012.
• Regatta Director will set up a Sub-Committee this year to review the current George Herman trophy rules, points and event inclusions for consistency. The rules will also be posted on the website and clearly communicated.

Happy New Year to all Members! As usual, New Year’s Eve brought much holiday activity to the Bay, with many cottagers and residents choosing to ring in the New Year at Norway Bay.

Check out our new “Careers” page – with important information for all potential swim instructors. Nancy Crain is the Director responsible for hiring instructors for the swim program. Please note: the Deadline for applications is January 15th .. and not earlier, as previously posted in error.

NBMA directors will also be meeting in the coming weeks, so check back to the site for any updates, news and developments.

Here’s how it works.

  – The contest is open to all NBMA members .
  – There are two age entrant categories:  Adults 16 and over  and
  Kids/Teens Under 16.
  – Send your entry to nbmaphoto@gmail.com.
  – Be sure to indicate which category your photos fall under, as well as
  your age category.
  – Please limit your email entry to two photos per email (cottage Internet
  access/speed is very limited!). Feel free to send as many emails as you
  need.
  – Please include your name, email address and a phone number where we can
  reach you this summer.
  – Our panel of three judges will review the entries, and a decision will
  be made and announced Labour Day Weekend.  Deadline for entry is *August
  26th.*

Safety and security are major concerns for the NBMA and in light of the events of the July long weekend, we have asked the Surete du Quebec to patrol Norway Bay over the upcoming long weekend and to also be present in Norway Bay in particular while Saturday night’s dance in occuring.

While Saturday night promies to be a huge and fun event, please be responsible and do not drink and drive!

Next up – the swim meet and the annual Norway Bay Triathalon events. Swim meet gets underway at 10 am at The Pier, and the Triathalon starts bright and early at 8:20 am, also at the Pier.

Regatta Social Events

To finish the weekend off … we have the Regatta Dance, Saturday night, held at Centennial Hall at 9 pm.  Tickets are $10 at the door.

Ever popular, the 2011 Airband and Regatta Awards Show is happening Sunday night, at Centennial Hall. dust off those dancing shoes and join in – organizers are always looking for entrants (young and ahem …older!) to participate in this fun-filled night.

• The Annual Norway Bay Tennis Tournament is coming up over the next two weekends - if you’re looking for a little friendly tennis competition, it’s the place to be:

Heavy rains over the past few days have caused damage to Highway 148, just outside of Luskville. The road was closed while emergency repairs were underway, but a two-kilometre detour is now in place. Registration Day

Registration Day is Saturday July 2nd at Centennial Hall – from 9 am to noon.  Stop by to register for all of the NBMA programs. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and meet some of the NBMA program directors and our many volunteers. There will also be some great information available of interest to Norway Bay residents.  Cheques are preferred(and appreciated). Strawberry Social

Special for Seniors and all the people who love them! Now in it’s second year, a Strawberry Social will be held on Sunday, July 3rd from at 1 pm. It will be held at 24 Fairview Avenue (corner of River Road and Fairview) in Sandy Monahan’s beautiful garden. Tickets are $3.00 per person, and are available in advance on Registration Day at Centennial Hall or at the event. July Dance

The July dance will be held Saturday night at eHall, starting at 9 pm. Featuring long-time favourite band, “Three Men and a Drummer” – the event will also have BBQ snacks along with a night of dancing and socializing. Volunteers are needed to make the event a success.
